The key to playing a wizard is knowing your spell list. Scribe scroll lets you keep the rarely usefull utility spells handy without clogging your spell list with them. Craft wonderous item lets you build a pointy hat of +intelligence. I have outdamaged the entire party with magic missile wands when the monster is equiped with non hp defences like eatherealness or DR. A wand of magic missile C元 gives you very reliable damage. Putting a single rank into every single knowledge skill gives a lot of bang for your buck. You have high int so thats a lot of skills. Starting off, lets talk stats Max int, you want 20 at level 1 and in pathfinder you can get it too. At level 5, a standard fireball is useful at times, but if you can throw out a "fire"ball of an element with your choice with 40% more damage and some special effects - now you will get some proper respect. stack various sources of damage and further effects to keep your spells useful. A fireball with the dazing spell feat (or the appropriate megamagic rod) can do a lot more harm than just hit point loss. be prepared to whip out some tricks with added effects. Personally, I think that a solid arsenal (either with the admixture subschool power for added versatility or a selection of different elemental spells) and about as much utility spells is the way to go. Metamagic powers such as dazing spell or rime spell can turn ye olde fireball or cone of cold into something much more useful. Wizards are best when it comes to throwing around buckets of status effects rather than just damage (warriors tend to do quite well in the damage department, and a wizard is unrivaled when it comes to utility) but with some of the later books blasting and in particular evocation has gotten a few nice tricks. If you want to play a blaster, evocation and possibly conjuration (there are, strangely enough, some solid damage spells in the conjuration list) are your best bet. Generalists have some fun tricks, but yes, extra spell slots ARE that good. In general, pathfinder rewards specialist wizards.
