If you’re one to annotate, I highly recommend it for this book!ĪLSO, I started watching the miniseries on HBO Max right after I finished the book, and WOW. I mostly attribute this extra-long completion time to the fact that I chose to annotate about 100 pages in. This book took me 16 days to read which is, perhaps, the longest a book has ever taken me. If you’re interested in reading it, please be sure to research the various trigger warnings as suicide, sexual assault, and self-harm are among them. I just loved everything about the way this story was built. His first story, Astronauts, which originally appeared in the Missouri Review, won the William Peden Prize. Bearing witness to Dominick’s growth, however frustrating it may have been at times, was a pleasure. Wally Lamb is the author of Shes Come Undone. Ultimately, I ended up bonding with Dominick Birdsey and investing myself in his journey 100% as a result of top-tier characterization of not only Dominick and Thomas but those they care about. Wally Lamb’s writing style, in-depth characterization, and masterful use of language, theme, and motif have left me completely enamored with this story. Wally Lamb helped VMC to raise money for its programs, but just as impressive is the way he won over fans with his easy-going style. Writers were surprised at Wally Lamb’s down-to-earth personality, and when the session ended, all felt as if they’d made a new friend. Ruby Miller handed him a page she’d colored, and the renowned author stop everything to accept the artwork and to assure her it would be placed on his refrigerator. Lamb welcomed the youngest person in attendance. “Sometimes writing fiction is a lonely thing.” Lamb says that he enjoys living in the world and meeting people and wants to keep the balance between that and his writing. “Each novel is a learning experience, and they change me, for the better I hope.” Instead, he sits down each day at his desk and lets the story naturally unfold. Lamb says he doesn’t write an outline to follow for his novels. He urged them to find writing groups and workshops to attend for feedback on their writing and for support. Lamb encouraged writers to stick with their craft. He found the note in the summer and then began developing the book. “I heard a voice in my head of the first fictional character and scribbled some things down on paper,” he said. Lamb said the idea for “She’s Come Undone,” a New York Times best seller and selection for the Oprah Winfrey Book Club, came while he was showering at home after the birth of his first son. Such an intimate setting excited attendees, and they all agreed that the $15 charge for the breakfast meeting was a deal. In the dining room at the VMC, he sat down with fifteen local writers over coffee and pastries and talked about writing. Lamb’s most personal appearance occurred on Wednesday morning before the luncheon. Lamb also mingled with a group the night before.
